Algoma University Student Food Bank

Food is a Right, Not a Privilege.

With a steady increase of tuition and ancillary fees and the rising cost of living, many students in post-secondary education frequently face food insecurity. Two groups that are passionate about addressing this issue - Food for Thought and the Summit Student Church- partnered in 2006 with the vision of establishing a student food bank at AU.  After a great deal of hard work, the food bank officially opened its doors in May 2007.

Since this time, the food bank has grown significantly: undertaking several annual fundraising campaigns, receiving support from a wide range of student volunteers, and indeed, assisting an increasing number of students who are in need of emergency food services.

The AUSFB is a collectively-run student service that recognizes the pressing, and often hidden consequences of student hunger.  We are working to address student food security issues on campus by offering emergency food relief to students.  We further strive to develop awareness are support within the University community.

We offer a confidential and oppression-free environment. The food bank is located in SH 212.  Feel free to email the food bank for information, questions, or comments.

The Food Bank's operating hours for the Fall 2009-Winter 2010 year are:

Monday - Thursday, 11:30am-3:30pm.
